She began singing when she was four. Her mother would encourage her to go to an audition with Sesame Street. In 1985, as a six-year-old, she started her acting career as a regular on the PBS children's educational program Sesame Street. She continued to pursue her acting career throughout New York City with many productions, including Fences which was a Broadway production, and Orfeo del Campo which was an off-Broadway production. The show won Star Search twice when she was seven years old. Her second appearance received her a rating of four stars.
